The Gooldscross - Cashel Railway
Step back in time and discover the fascinating story of the railway that once ran through Ardmayle, connecting our community to Cashel, Gooldscross and beyond. Ardmayle Heritage Society is delighted to welcome our Vice Chairman and local railway historian Billy Maher to St. John the Baptist Church, Ardmayle, for a special evening exploring the history of the Cashel Extension Railway and its importance to our local community. Through historical photographs, stories and personal recollections, Billy will bring to life the days when steam trains passed through Ardmayle, the station was a hive of activity, and the railway played an important role in the everyday lives of local people. From the opening of Ardmayle Railway Station in 1907 to the railway houses, the people who worked on the line and the lasting legacy of the railway, this promises to be a fascinating journey into a chapter of our local history.
