Low Pay, Don't Pay
It all starts when the women realise the supermarket prices are going beyond their capacity to keep up so they take what they want and pay what they feel is right. Naturally chaos ensues! While he lived, Dario Fo, the Nobel Prize winning writer, was the most performed living playwright in the world. The reason was obvious. He wrote fantastic comedies with a political kick and great understanding of the trials of the common man and woman. His most famous play 'Accidental Death of an Anarchist', looked harshly at police behaviour but 'We Can't Pay, We Won't Pay' nearly started a revolution. Updated after the crash, it was renamed 'Low Pay, Don't Pay', and although not performed in Ireland for more than ten years, it is still wonderfully relevant and hilariously funny. Director Martin Maguire brought the very moving 'Disco Is Dead' by Jacqui Corcoran to the Source last year and has directed a series of political comedies with Theatre On The Edge over the last few years including 'Oh To Have a Little House' and 'A Great Little Republic'.
