Join us for the opening of The Long Becoming. On Friday evening, Killoskehane Castle opens its doors for the public opening of E Alana James's life-story portraits. Move through rooms on two floors, decorated for Christmas. Meet people whose long lives hold hardship and change, but also humour, connection and the ability to begin again. Alana makes each portrait from a conversation. Older people share their memories and photographs. She brings these together with historical imagery and expressive colour in digital collage, so each portrait shows how a life felt as well as what happened. Your evening includes: • The Castle decorated for Christmas • Earlier and current portraits in the chapel, showing how the work has developed • Individual lives in the castle's lounge, bedrooms and hallway • The largest group of the newest framed portraits in the drawing room • Photographs from the 1930s–1970s in the dining room to spark memories and conversation • Nora's story in the kitchen, the heart of the home • The chance to meet the artist
